Hawkes Bay New Zealand

Hawkes Bay is know as wine country. Its one of the sunniest regions of New Zealand, sheltered by ranges to the west the Hawkes Bay landscape is full of rolling hills and fertile plains. Perfect environment for orchards and of course some of the best internationaly known bottles of wine. Check out my page here on New Zealand Wines. If your a wine drinker, you must visit this excellent wine growing country side. The city of Napier, in Hawkes Bay, is one of the cities I visit every time I am in New Zealand. Main reason is because I have relatives that live there and also the whole town is done up in Art Deco. It is something to see.

As you can imagine there are plenty of wine related tours and activities to do in Hawkes Bay. Bay Tours and Charters has sightseeing tours of the bay, wineries and specialty food shops. You get to see the Art Deco capital of the world. Each year the city has an Art Deco Festival where all the residents dress up in period costumes and hundreds of vintage cars driving the streets. The city goes back to the time of flappers and boaters. I really need to get there at this time to see all this. There is a 6 Day Northern Highlands Scenic Tour taken on a motor coach that hits all the major cities on the North Island. This tour will take you from Auckland, Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier and Wellington. Accommodations are all taken care of a long the way.

Hastings

One of the towns in Hawkes bay is Hastings. Hastings is the heartland of New Zealand, a Mediterranean climate, stunning landscape and the friendliest of people. If you’re looking for more than just a wine tour, some fancy food shop or a walk on the beach with a bottle of Sherwood Pinot Noir. If your looking to get your blood rushing you can try paragliding, hot air ballooning, jet skiing, caving and or mountain biking. This just a small selection of activities. So what ever your into from Sitting on the beach drinking a bottle of white wine eating a table full of fish an chips from the local shop or 4 wheeling on that same beach kicking up some sand.

Napier

Napier is another great town that tourist travel to just to check out the Art Deco make of the town. An earthquake in 1931 destroyed Napier. The town went under a massive reconstruction rebuild. The town was rebuild with the art of the time in mind, Art Deco. It is very impressive town to drive through.
