Christchurch New Zealand

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. Christchurch got its name on March 27 1848 by John Robert Godley, but it was recorded as Christchurch in the minutes of the management committee of the association. Christchurch became a city by Royal Charter on July 31 1856, making it the oldest city New Zealand. If you want to go way back, the first evidence of settler’s in Christchurch were moa-hunting tribes that were found in caves back in 1250. When you visit Christchurch you will notice all the parks scattered all around the city. Botanical Gardens, Hagley Park, Mona Vale and Ferrymead Heritage Park are just some of the parks through out the city that you can’t help but check them all out.

Cathedral Square

When you visit Christchurch you will notice all the parks scattered all around the city. Some of the parks that are scattered all over Christchurch are The Botanical Gardens, Hagley Park, Mona Vale and Ferrymead Heritage Park just to name a few. Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens had there start back in 1850, back with the founding of the city. With a total of 165 hectares (407 acres) full of walking paths the wonder through out the park, garden features, and a small golf course and extensive sports grounds for softball, to concerts on the lawn. Cathedral Square is considered the center of Christchurch. Auglican Cathedral is right there on the square attached to historic Worcester Boulevard , Colombo St. and sits close to the Avon River that drifts all through Christchurch. This square is a perfect location for public art, meeting people at Starbucks, or shop through the daily market. You would be able to find almost anything at the market from Possum Fur Garments to greenstone (pounamu). And plenty of food as well.
